COLONY Update: May 2025

Welcome back once again to our monthly newsletter! So glad to be back and sharing this month’s progress with you, and it has been really cool this month, so let’s not dilly-dally and just hop to it, shall we?

State of the Game, Playtesting, and More!

In the past, we’ve given glimpses into the mechanics of the game as it’s being developed, but we’ve kept most of the actual gameplay information close to the chest. However, we are excited to say that we are now putting together a gameplay trailer for the tabletop game! What that means exactly is that we’re going to be showing you all some of the finer details on how we’ve bridged various mechanics between TTRPGs, deck building games, and war games into this cool tabletop experience!

We have our cast and crew ready, and we’re really excited to be able to collaborate on this with a bunch of local film talent and fellow creatives. I’ve had a few meetups now with our director and cinematographer for the project, Chris, and we’re likely going to have a few more meetups over the following weeks leading up to the film shoot; each time we show progress, we both are just ecstatic to be working on this together.

As we creep ever closer to the shoot date, I get so excited for the work that has been done and the work to come, and I cannot wait for both you and I to see the culmination of this creativity!

Song of Origins

We’re still working on Part 2 of the Song of Origins - many of the developments we went into in the section above have taken up time that we would otherwise be putting toward creating assets for the next installment. This is unfortunate but necessary in order to make the deadlines involved for the trailer video: situations like this mean we have to prioritize the time-sensitive elements the most, doubly so because of the small size of our team. Your patience at this time is especially appreciated, and we hope to bring you the next piece of Aoiama’s mythology soon.

Live Streams

Charles streamed with us a few times in May, deviating slightly from what we usually have him working on for his first stream this month, where he wrapped up some card art for us, and then coming closer to finishing off the artwork for the Mother Tree for the Song of Origins Part 2 video!
