Hello again, everyone! Hahli is writing the post this month - hopefully the new year has been going well for you all so far. Let’s take a look at what we at Hexahedron have been up to lately:
State of the Game
Recently, as part of the process of developing the Adventure demo, Muir and I sat down to revisit the statblock layout for Wild Beasts; although we’ve done some of the initial planning work for their category in the past, the statblock template itself hadn’t been touched in some time, and needed to be brought into line with what we’ve been developing since then. Generally, a Wild Beast’s statblock will have a section for its basic stats (Vitality, Chitin, Mobility, Size(s), etc.), its Skills, any Natural Weapons it may have, and its set of Traits.
Compared to Sekuta, Wild Beasts generally don’t use the entire array of Skills (for example, a Pulo, or slug, probably isn’t going to be making a Knowledge check). Our goal is to present the information that a Game Monarch or Swarm Commander may need to use at a glance, while keeping the statblock a little more streamlined in comparison to something as complex as a Champion Sheet.
(If you need something to tide you over in the meantime, don't forget that the Arena demo is available here.)
We’re also running one more poll related to the Adventure demo over on Patreon, this time about which of the monstrous Ulukuta will be added to the patron-exclusive version of the demo. Bear in mind that the Children of Zek are fearsome indeed, and are some of the most dangerous foes that your Sekuta Champions may face… Consider checking out our Patreon page and supporting us if you can: https://www.patreon.com/c/hex_studios
Song of Origins
Charles has been working on the art for Movement 7 of the Song of Origins, as featured in this month’s image: as the Sekuta wander in exile, the Apoi find that life outside the Mother Tree’s branches can be fraught and unforgiving…
Muir has also been making progress on Movement 7’s musical arrangements now that Nash has finished the initial compositions. As we’ve discussed in previous posts, this is one of our biggest and most complex pieces yet; this particular track may take longer to finish than some of the others, but we hope it’ll be worth the wait when it’s done!
That’s all for January! We hope the new year is going well for you, and we’re looking forward to having more to share in the coming months.
