COLONY Update: April 2026

Welcome back, everyone! Muir’s in the writing chair again, and we’ve had a strange and stressful, though very productive month, so let’s talk about what we’ve been up to!

State of the Game

I was, unfortunately, very ill at the beginning of this month, and as such was unable to host a game this month at Deuces Wild, but that certainly does not mean our time was wasted. I have spent the past three weeks busting down on putting together the new game guide for the upcoming demo expansion, and I’m happy to say that as of today, the first draft is completed! Next, we’re going to be running it through a round or two of copy-editing and closed playtesting to make sure it’s ready for you all to enjoy later this year.

As we work our way toward the demo’s release, I have been hard at work making a new terrain board and new minis! For the board, I decided that the best way to visually demonstrate the new Game Monarch mechanics in this update would be to build a dungeon for the demo’s final boss. Armed with a new foam cutter, a good workshop my friend lets me use, and a large print schematic of the dungeon floor layout, the process went down from taking me 6 weeks of planning and execution last time to a mere week and a half this time around. That being said, I took it easy on myself and didn’t pour an entire water feature for this board, so that also saved me a lot of hassle. As for minis, as many of you know, Hahli has been working on some official Colony minis for some time now, and we thought this would be an excellent time to give them a test print and paint job; we’re looking forward to showing them off in the coming months. Additionally, I have made a snail using a real snail shell and some air-dry modeling clay, and used TitanCraft (whom we’re close friends with) to build and pose our dungeon’s final boss. While Colony has crash-coursed me into becoming a game designer, I have had a long history with prop design and hand crafts of this nature, and being able to exercise these skills, while sometimes frustrating, is still a cathartic and worthwhile use of time for me.

We will be hosting another demo day at Deuces Wild coming up on the 2nd of May, and as always, any of you who are in the White Mountain, AZ area are more than welcome to join!

Song of Origins

Progress towards Part 3 of the Song of Origins persists, and Charles is nearing the end of art development for Movement 7. As we’ve mentioned before, Movements 7 and 8 are by far the most densely-packed of all the Movements, and as such require a rather exorbitant amount of new artwork to properly express their stories. We are grateful for your patience over the past year as we’ve been chipping away at this process, and we can’t wait to show you the culmination of these many years of work.

And that will conclude this April update! As always, thank you all again so much for following along on this journey, and thank you for your continued support. We once again hope you are staying safe, staying healthy, and staying creative. Take care, and we’ll see you next month!

Cheers,

Isaac Muir

"To each, their own voice, their own hand. To each, their own word, their own mark, their own note. To each, their own vision, their own passion, their own love. To each, a stage, a podium, a wall, on which they graciously display a piece of themselves. For what is art that sits in the dark, unheard, unseen, unread, but an eagle in a cage?"
